How to Download and Install NEI 1.7.10 for Minecraft: Java Edition

If you are a fan of Minecraft: Java Edition, you might have heard of NEI, or Not Enough Items, a popular mod that adds a lot of features and functions to the game. In this article, we will show you how to download and install NEI 1.7.10, the latest version of this mod, for Minecraft: Java Edition.

NEI is a successor to both TooManyItems and Recipe Book, two older mods that were used to manage items and recipes in Minecraft. NEI combines the best features of both mods, such as:

download nei 1.7 10

  • A searchable item list that shows all the items and blocks available in the game, including those from other mods

  • A recipe viewer that shows how to craft any item or block, as well as how to use them in other machines or devices

  • An item spawner that lets you create any item or block in your inventory or in a nearby container

  • A cheat mode that lets you change game modes, time, weather, enchantments, potions, and more

  • A utility mode that lets you save and load your inventory, delete items, heal yourself, and more

  • A customization mode that lets you change the appearance and behavior of NEI

With NEI, you can enhance your Minecraft experience by having more control and convenience over your items and recipes. You can also explore new possibilities with other mods that are compatible with NEI.

Before you can install NEI, you need to have some requirements and prerequisites ready. These are:

  • A computer that can run Minecraft: Java Edition without performance issues

  • Enough storage space for downloading and installing mods

  • A copy of Minecraft: Java Edition installed on your computer

  • A basic knowledge of how to access files and folders on your computer

  • A willingness to use mods at your own risk

Once you have these things ready, you can proceed with the following steps:

Step 1: Download and install Minecraft Forge

Minecraft Forge is a free add-on for Minecraft: Java Edition that allows you to run mods. You need to install Forge before you can install NEI or any other mod.

To download and install Forge, follow these steps:

  • Go to and click on Download Latest (1.7.10). This will download a .jar file that contains the Forge installer.

  • Open the .jar file by double-clicking on it. This will open a window that shows the Forge installer.

  • Select Install client and click OK. This will install Forge on your computer.

  • Open the Minecraft launcher and click on Profile from the drop-down menu. This will show a list of profiles that you can use to play Minecraft.

  • Create a new profile or edit an existing one. Name it something like Forge and select release 1.7.10-Forge from the Version drop-down menu. This will make sure that you are using the Forge version of Minecraft.

  • Save your profile and click Play. This will launch Minecraft with Forge enabled.

  • Wait for the game to load and then close it. This will create some folders and files that are needed for installing mods.

To check if Forge is installed correctly, follow these steps:

  • Open the Minecraft launcher and select the Forge profile.

  • Click Play and wait for the game to load.

  • On the main menu, click on Mods. This will show a list of mods that are installed or available.

  • If you see Minecraft Forge and 4 mods loaded, then you have successfully installed Forge. If not, you may need to reinstall Forge or troubleshoot the issue.

Step 2: Download and extract the NEI mod file

The next step is to download and extract the NEI mod file from the internet. The NEI mod file is a .jar file that contains the code and data for the mod.

The final step is to copy the NEI mod file to the mods folder in your Minecraft installation directory. The mods folder is where Forge looks for mods to load when you launch Minecraft.

To copy the mod file to the mods folder, follow these steps:

  • Locate your Minecraft installation directory on your computer. This is usually in one of these locations:

  • C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft

  • Note down or copy the path of your Minecraft installation directory.

  • Close the window and cancel editing your profile.

  • In your Minecraft installation directory, find or create a folder named mods. If you have already installed other mods, you may see some .jar files in this folder. If not, you may need to create a new folder and name it mods.

  • Copy the NEI mod file that you extracted in the previous step to the mods folder. You can do this by dragging and dropping the file, or by using the copy and paste commands.

Make sure that the NEI mod file is in the mods folder and not in any subfolders. The file name should be NotEnoughItems-1.7.10-1.0.5.120-universal.jar</stron
